Somatic Experiencing ®
Somatic Experiencing ® (SE) is a therapeutic model which enables the innate ability we have to overcome trauma and chronic stress. Our body tells us what lies beneath the surface and is most often expressed as uncomfortable sensations and feelings (anxiety, fatigue, depression etc). It encourages and utilises awareness of our bodily sensations as a pathway for re-negotiating and resolving the affects of trauma. SE addresses the underlying causes of suffering from trauma by addressing the neurophysiology that created the symptoms of trauma in the first place.
The approach allows unresolved past events to be safely and gradually processed in present time. While gently pacing the process so that each individual can safely assimilate the changes within their nervous system.
Gestalt counselling and psychotherapy is a growth orientated psychotherapy that emphasises a relational approach in working with people. It is a practical, positive and integrative approach which is effective in treating a wide range os issues such as, anxiety, depression, stress, addiction, relationship concerns. It supports people to develop self-awareness as well as exploring new and creative possibilities for living a life with meaning and purpose. Gestalt Therapy embraces our whole experience (physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual and environmental) assisting us to expand our awareness of who we are and how we relate to the world. It focuses on immediate thoughts, feelings and behaviour to better understand the way we relate to others and the world around us. With increased awareness new perspectives and change is possible.
I offer clients a safe, supportive and respectful space to explore difficult feelings and issues, supporting your toward greater well-being, aliveness and connection.
Working with me...
The initial consultation will give us a feel for whether we can do therapeutic work together. For me this involves assessing whether I am able to offer you effective therapeutic support. For you, it involves getting a feel for whether you will be able to bring whatever you need to bring to our sessions.
I care about your experience and want to build a relationship of trust with you. Resolving Trauma requires us to work together collaboratively at a pace that suits you. Initially we explore an overview of what you are seeking from therapy. This will be the first time you have met me, so while I do need to have a reasonable idea of what you are wanting, I will also be keeping in my awareness that we have just met and you don't need to reveal all. What's important is what our connection feels like, and how we respond to each other. As therapy progresses I regularly review with you, how you feel you are moving toward your goals.
